How We Work

United Way South Australia employs a number of methods to help raise funds for South Australian charities such as:

 Volunteers

United Way is a volunteer based organisation in line with our purpose of building better communities. United Way achieves much of its success from the dedication and commitment of volunteer workers. Eyes Down Bingo and all Bingo Booths are staffed by

volunteer workers. Volunteers also assist in the United Way office and to organize United Way events, raffles and some services. To become a volunteer for United Way, please contact the office.

Eyes Down Bingo

United Way SA conducts Eyes Down Bingo sessions at various locations, with the purpose of generating more charity dollars for South Australia. United Way Eyes Down Bingo has been well attended and supported.

Through this fundraising initiative United Way SA and the Members Association has injected a further $60,000 into the community in 2003.

Instant Bingo Booths

United Way SA Currently manages five instant bingo booths. A number of these booths are used by non-profit community groups which participate in selling tickets and receive a donation for their participation. Approximately $50,000 was distributed in 2002-2003 using this method.

United Way Community Lottery

United Way SA runs a community lottery each year. Any non-profit community group may apply to sell these lottery tickets and in return receive donations equivalent to 50% of the value of tickets sold.

In Kind Donations

In recent years, United Way SA has received donations of significant quantities of office equipment, computers in

particular, that in turn were distributed to community groups and service agencies. Many groups are in need of basic computer equipment and appreciate pre-loved and reconditioned equipment. Each year local residents and businesses alike donate large number so Christmas presents for distribution by United Way to those most in need.

Donation through Payroll Contribution

Payroll deduction to United Way SA is philanthropy in its purest form. Every dollar given is a dollar of difference for the community and for those in need. United Way South Australia guarantees that 100% of payroll contributions go to the community.

United Ways worldwide are leaders in utilising Payroll Deduction for raising funds for charitable purposes.

Over 2,000 United Ways across America raise US $3.5 billion per annum with an average 75% of funds from Payroll Deduction.

United Way is present in 44 countries, raising funds through payroll donations to meet their local community needs.
