One
of the strengths of United Way SA is how we distribute the funds raised. A
Board of Management is elected and comprises volunteers drawn from many local
corporate organisations and the wider community. An Allocation Committee is
formed from the Board of Management which refers as needed to local community
workers who are active in a particular local community.
Therefore, each year funds are distributed to a broad group of beneficiaries
on a proof of needs basis. Hundreds of charities and community groups have
been supported over United Way’s thirty years.
Past beneficiaries have included Spina Bifida Association, Motor Neuron Disease Association, Parkinson’s SA, Meals on Wheels, Community Houses, Riding for the Disabled, Eating Disorders Association, Scout Groups, Paraplegic and Quadriplegic Association of SA, Toughlove, Julian Burton Burns Trust and community groups and many health, welfare and environmental groups around South Australia.
