Get ready to pick up your paintbrushes.
The 2nd Annual Bob Zahurak Memorial Painting Event to benefit the United Way of the Laurel Highlands will be held on March 11 at the United Steelworkers Local 2632 Hall in Tire Hill.
Zahurak was a long-time United Way supporter and union member who worked at North American Hoganas in Hollsopple. He died in 2020 from COVID-19. The painting party is a way his wife, Billie Zahurak, is carrying on his legacy of giving back to the community.
Last year's event raised more than $3,000 for the United Way, helping the organization to support health and human services work in Cambria and Somerset counties, with a focus on early childhood development, parental engagement and youth drug and alcohol prevention.
The party includes more than painting. Raffles and door prizes will be part of the fun as well. Last year there were more than 100 baskets. Attendees will be given a shirt commemorating the event. Wine glasses will also be for sale.
Anyone interested in attending, or providing a basket for the raffles, should contact Billie Zahurak by email at BillieGirl20@hotmail.com, or via text message at 814-241-3028. A Facebook page about the event is being created, with more information.
