United Way of the Laurel Highlands President and CEO Karen Struble Myers has been selected as one of the Top 100 Female Nonprofit Leaders in the state by Pennsylvania Business Central’s Women in Business.
Also receiving the honor is United Way Board Member Sue Mann in her role as President of the 1889 Foundation. The foundation is a funding partner and collaborator with United Way, working on key projects in the health and human services sector.
It's part of the publication’s celebration of women in leadership positions in the nonprofit arena throughout a 23-county readership area. Nominations were gathered from readers, business leaders and the editorial staff.
Struble Myers took the helm at the United Way of the Laurel Highlands in 2020, shortly before the pandemic. Since then, she has led the organization through two Annual Campaign cycles, raising more than $1 million each year to continue our funding for the 24 programs in Cambria and Somerset Counties.
During that time the United Way started a regional diaper bank, serving families in the entire service area.
“On behalf of the United Way Board of Directors we congratulate Karen and Sue for this well-deserved recognition,” Jeff Wood, United Way of the Laurel Highlands board president and general manager for Kongsberg Protech Systems USA, said.
Struble Myers serves on or leads various boards, committees and panels, providing leadership and guidance on health and human services concerns in the Laurel Highlands, including crucial work in early childhood development.
The publication will be distributed starting April 29 to more than 40,000 readers.
